The anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean was highly anticipated by fans for a very long time. Upon its release on Netflix on December 1st, 2021, fans were ecstatic to finally witness the adventures of Jolyne Cujoh and her friends on the big screen. The series currently has 12 episodes, with episodes 13-24 set to be released later in Fall 2022.
But since the release of Stone Ocean, fans have taken to the internet and produced a slew of Stone Ocean memes that can only be described as hilarious. Whether they’re about expressing excitement or appreciation for the series or simply having fun with the characters, here are 10 memes that are sure to leave fans cry-laughing.
10 The Ultimate Glow-Up
This meme is a classic reminder of the age-old lesson: appearances can be deceiving. Foo Fighters, better known as F.F, is both a Stand and a Stand User with a multitude of abilities, from firing plankton projectiles to possessing people’s bodies.
The latter is especially appropriate since F.F inhabits the body of the deceased prisoner Etroe throughout the story. Taking into account their origins as a colony of plankton, one might say this is less of a glow-up and more of a transformation, but nonetheless, the results are stunning.
9 Meanwhile, In A Parallel Universe…
As many fans know, the plot of Stone Ocean begins with Jolyne being sentenced to 15 years in prison for a crime she did not commit. Initially determined to break out of prison, Jolyne ultimately decides to remain in prison in order to retrieve her father’s stolen discs.
But with this meme, one can’t help but wonder what the story would be like if Jolyne was never sent to prison. It may also make one wish Monopoly get-out-of-jail-free cards were actually viable so Jolyne could continue on with her youth.
8 So Close, Yet So Far
As previously stated, the release of Stone Ocean was highly anticipated amongst JoJo fans for a long time. This is especially the case because it entailed a 3-year wait after the release of the previous part: Golden Wind.
But this meme serves as a hilarious reminder to fans that it’s best to be careful what they wish for. After all, the phrase Stone Ocean can either mean the long-awaited sixth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series or a literal ocean filled to the brim with stones. Only one of the two is worth waiting three years over.
7 Band Or Stand?
It’s no secret that memes, especially JoJo memes, are unafraid to reference each other and this Jolyne meme is no exception. Following in the footsteps of the popular Drake meme, this particular meme accurately captures the joy of learning about someone’s love for Foo Fighters only to realize that they’re not talking about the character.
There’s no question that many JoJo fans have been in this exact situation at least once or twice, and not just with Foo Fighters. But who knows, maybe there are fans out there who love Foo Fighters, both the band and the character.
6 Time To Replace Giorno!
In addition to the unique characters and the vast array of Stands, another selling point of the JoJo series is the wonderful music that has come from the anime adaptations. In the first official trailer for the Stone Ocean anime, fans also got to listen to Jolyne’s theme alongside the showcasing of several key characters and moments.
Opinions on Jolyne’s theme may vary among fans, but as this Toy Story 2 meme suggests, there are fans who have already deemed this musical theme better than Giorno’s theme. One can only predict what sorts of memes can be based around Jolyne’s theme in the near future.
5 Farewell, Doc
Throughout Jolyne’s childhood, she never received any kind of affection from her father Jotaro due to him frequently being abroad for work. This caused Jolyne to resent her father as she grew up, especially after he divorced her mother.
But as it turns out, it is later revealed that Jotaro stayed away in order to protect Jolyne and his mother. This Bugs Bunny meme perfectly and comically illustrates Jotaro’s thought process through the entire ordeal. It may also leave fans wishing for a way for Jotaro to protect his family without leaving them.
4 Jotaro’s Look-Alike
During Episode 3 of the Stone Ocean anime, in a flashback, Jolyne sees a man walking towards her wearing clothes similar to her father Jotaro. For a moment, she believes the man to be her father only to be ultimately disappointed when she finds out that it isn’t.
But despite being present for one episode, one fan decided to take creative liberty and give the man a name as well as a Stand, resulting in this Jotaro clone who wields The Planet. Whether more fans will take even more creative liberty and give this character a proper Stand ability and backstory remains to be seen, but The Planet has some competition in the form of the other powerful Stands in Stone Ocean.
3 Crouching Masterpiece, Hidden Critiques
Although the Stone Ocean anime has been widely celebrated and well-received, the adaptation is not without its issues. In particular, rather than releasing one episode per week, episodes are instead set to be released in batches, a move that has garnered much criticism.
As this Simpsons meme depicts, despite the criticism, the reception for the Stone Ocean anime continues to be mostly positive. While there also is the other issue of the ending of the part, with the release schedule being a batch of episodes every few months, this issue has some time before it can be addressed.
2 F.F The Water Expert
The importance of drinking water cannot be understated and no one understands that more than F.F. As a colony of plankton, their entire survival wholly depends on water, both in and out of battle.
With the 7 Benefits of Water meme, this image serves as both an unintentional public service announcement and a great source of hilarity for anyone familiar with Stone Ocean. This meme also begs the question: if F.F was placed on cases of water, would this encourage people to drink more water?
1 To Skip Or Not To Skip
In addition to the main Stone Ocean theme, fans were also introduced to a new opening. This new opening is also called Stone Ocean and is performed by Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets. Based on this Avengers meme, it is very clear that the reception to the new opening is already very positive.
Additionally, it is also very clear that the Stone Ocean soundtrack is moving in the right direction for fans. One can only hope that future Stone Ocean openings will be just as popular and well-received as this one.
