In yesterday’s episode of Hardcore History, Elon Musk was invited as a guest. In the episode, Dan Carlin and Elon Musk were discussing the military, aircraft, the second world war and the role of engineers in warfare. First, they discuss about engineers war concept, on which Elon says that many books don’t focus on technology when it comes to war. The most battles in history, technology moved slowly due to which it was more about strategies and tactics. He then gave the example of “if lasers were shooting from space, Julius Caesar, Napoleon would get lasered from space. Then they discuss world war 2 and fighter planes on which Elon says that there was interesting design work around the fighters, he also further mentioned that when initially there would be fights between the US aircraft and Japanese aircraft in the Pacific theatre, there were cases where entire the US tThe squadron was shut down for zero losses on the Japanese side. He also said that US fighters were not that good be it at tactics or the training, they then discussed the design, speed and technology of fighter planes. Later in the podcast, they discuss the development of talinks and fighter planes. Moreover, they discuss the war between the two superpower countries in which Elon adds about the drone wars, he believes that no one will die in drone wars and then it will reduce the penalty of wars. In the following segment, they talk about bows and arrows where Dan asks him about the engineering in warfare. Elon says that engineering is an underrated impact on the outcomes of war, it is often overlooked. Continuing the conversation he adds that he thinks America is the greatest sort of forceful benevolent outcome of any country in history on balance. Later they discuss Romans on which Elon says that Roman won their wars because Romans were the best engineers.
