In 2007, a controversy rocked Kim Kardashian’s life when her sex video with her then-boyfriend, Ray J, surfaced, and one version claims that the reality TV star’s own mother, Kris Jenner, participated personally in the film’s release negotiations.

That rumor, however, would turn out to be partially false. Ray J stated at the time that Kim Kardashian’s mother was in the middle of discussions with Vivid Entertainment, the tape’s distributor, for the film.

Ray J claims in his interview that Kris and Kim plotted to manufacture and sell a sex tape in the wake of Paris Hilton’s massive financial success. Sources on the other side deny this, claiming she had no involvement in the tape’s development, and we’ve heard Kris was a hands-off dealmaker who had no interaction with Vivid. That doesn’t rule out the possibility that Kris was operating behind the scenes, as Ray J maintains.

Although the Kardashians claimed they never signed off on the tape, the reality is that Vivid could not have published it without Kim and Ray’s signatures if it had, there would be a slam dunk case, because Vivid could not have released it without their signatures.

Kim filed a lawsuit against Vivid before the film was released, but it was dismissed… we’re told because she and Ray worked out a settlement that allowed the video to be released. In terms of money, we know Kim and Ray split a $1 million advance and divided a percentage of the tape’s profits. It has surpassed Paris Hilton’s sex tape as the highest-grossing sex tape of all time.
