“Shot mara?” one of the friends inquires. “Haan mara na,” he responds when asked if he took the shot. (I did it.)” “Ab hamari baari hai,” he says, folding his sleeve. (It’s now our turn.)” The girl is surprised and perplexed by their chat, and only breathes a sigh of relief as her buddy moves to retrieve the Shot deodorant bottle off the room’s shelf.

This isn’t the only ad with sexualization in it. When a girl approaches, four men at a store hold a talk in another ad from the brand. When they find the last bottle of Layer’r perfume, they debate who will take the “shot” because there are four of them and only one of it. However, instead of showing the perfume bottle, the brand displays the girl conversing with her companions. She even turns angrily away from them, believing they are talking about her.

The commercials enraged netizens, who accused the brand of trivialising an issue that millions of women in the country face on a daily basis. Many people accused them of encouraging rape culture. “How can these kinds of commercials get allowed, sick and outright repulsive,” one netizen said. “Does @layerr shot have a lot of perverts?” “Whoever came up with, created, produced, acted in, and authorised the new Layer’r Shot ads, shame on each of you,” one person said.

And NO, Please DO NOT ask me what is so wrong with it. Or DO NOT tell me to lighten up and take a joke. Or chill and move on! Or why am I making this bigger by bringing fear here. Just DO NOT! I will block you!
