The statistics indicate that Netflix isn’t quite as enthusiastic about cancellations as some may suggest. They fall in line with the majority of their rivals.

The year 2021 saw a lot of Netflix cancellations.

Several other shows, including Ozark, Dead to Me,  Grace and Frankie, and Family Reunion, have seasons that expire in 2022. We won’t include those because we think cancellations and the final series should be listed separately.

Netflix Anime That Has Been Cancelled

Numerous anime productions were reported to be shelved after Netflix’s Q1 results. Among them are initiatives that were under production as well as those that were already in effect.

Among the projects that were canceled are:

  • Antiracist Baby
  • Bone
  • Boons and Curses
  • CentaurWorld (Season 2)
  • Dino Daycare
  • Kung-Fu Space Punch
  • Pearl
  • The Twits
  • Toil and Trouble
  • Wings of Fire
  • With Kind Regards from Kindergarten

Netflix Shows That Will Be Canceled in 2022

Resident Evil

Resident Evil received negative reviews. Many people criticized the show for turning the legendary horror property into a teen drama, which indicates that not enough people watched it to support a second season.

The first several weeks of the show’s statistics were great, but after that, things quickly dropped.

Q-force

The contentious LGBTQ-focused cartoon series Q-Force ended in September 2021 with a whimper, which means that it was not renewed for a season 2 but rather was secretly canceled. The decision to cancel it was eventually made public on a podcast.

First Kill

After a promising beginning, Netflix’s new vampire LGBTQ show quickly declined, as evidenced by metrics like top 10 hourly numbers and completion data, leading to its stealth cancellation after 2 months.

Despite losing viewers, the show nonetheless gained a dedicated following on social media which is fighting to get it revived elsewhere.

The Chair

Officially, we haven’t yet learned anything regarding The Chair’s status, but entirely based on how the program has performed, we can infer it won’t be coming back.

Since the show’s star, Sandra Oh, told sources in early 2022 that she thinks it won’t happen, we think it won’t be coming back.

The Midnight Gospel

This creative adult anime series, developed by Pendleton Ward and Duncan Trussell, has you traveling to surreal worlds inside the program’s universe simulator. Because of its unconventional nature, it may not have attracted the widest audience required to fund a second season.

Adventure Beast

Adventure Beast’s comeback to Netflix is “unlikely,” based on one of the program’s producers, as we originally learned. You’d be excused if you didn’t even see the animated series that was added to Netflix in late 2021, but despite excellent feedback, it is not anticipated that the show will return.

Standing Up

The creator of the popular Call My Agent! program on Netflix, Fanny Herrero, also created the French series Standing Up. Unfortunately, there will be no second season on Netflix even if one is planned.

Space Force

Before the second season of Space Force was made available on Netflix, the future of the show may have already been determined. The project had to make significant budget cuts and relocate to Vancouver to save costs.

Sadly, the top 10 numbers indicate that the show didn’t perform up to Netflix’s standards, therefore the suspension was lifted at the end of April.

Raising Dion

The second season of the show, which had its first premiere in October 2019, took more than 2.5 years to appear on Netflix. Sadly, its ratings weren’t strong enough to support the third season.

Another Life Season 3

It was never a question of if Netflix will cancel Another Life; it was simply a matter of when.

According to a tweet by Katie Sackhoff that strongly suggested the show’s end, we can presume the series had already been canceled by Netflix by December 2021.

This shouldn’t come as a huge shock that Another Life was canceled despite its devoted fan base. Both viewers and critics were unimpressed with the show, and Netflix was simply unwilling to spend more money on it due to its small following.

Gentefied

Gentefied, which may have defied the odds to reach a second season, was canceled in early January 2022 after failing to receive a third season renewal.

It did make it into the US top 10 Netflix TV lists, but only for nine days before falling out.

In the comedic series, three Latino cousins tried to carry on their grandfather’s ambition by operating a taco stand in a rapidly changing region.

Archive 81

An original horror series Archive 81, which was developed on a podcast series of the same name, was one of the top new shows on Netflix in 2022.

Although the show made it into Netflix’s top 10, there are indications that the early cancellation of Archive 81 may have been caused by a decline in viewing between episodes.

Pretty Smart

Pretty Smart, which had its initial premiere in October 2021, struggled to gain a following (a common issue for Netflix’s multi-cam sitcoms), and on April 27th it was reported that it would be canceled along with the announcement that Emily Osment had now been a full-timer on Young Sheldon.

On The Verge

In September 2021, a covert release of this Netflix collaboration with France’s Canal+ occurred on the service. Sadly, despite having Elisabeth Shue as its lead, the show did not have much of an impact.

Without a response to an Instagram comment, we might never have known the show had been quietly canceled.

Alien TV

The children’s television program from Australia, Ixbee, Pixbee, and Squee, has been available on Netflix for two seasons.

Early in 2022, we discovered that the show wouldn’t be making a comeback. The show’s makers were adamant to stress that there is still room for further episodes in the future.

Diablero

Diablero, a Netflix original series from Mexico, had two seasons, the most recent of which debuted in 2022. Sadly, we have heard exclusively that it has been canceled by Netflix and will not be coming back for a third season.

Cooking With Paris

It turns out that Paris Hilton’s cooking show didn’t have a sufficient number of viewers to support a second season, which raises the more important question of why it was allowed a series in the first place.

According to a source, Netflix decided not to give Cooking with Paris a second season even though it spent five days in Australia’s top 10 and one day in Canada’s. It didn’t make the top 10 lists in the US.

In her opulent kitchen, the media personality prepared straightforward dishes for her celebrity visitors, who included Kim Kardashian West, Nikki Glaser, Demi Lovato, and Lele Pons.

The series has a 34 Metacritic score and a 5.3 IMDb score.
