Despite officially being released in 2019, Lost Ark has taken over much of gaming and streaming in early 2022. A fantasy MMORPG with a top-down style of gameplay, Lost Ark was played by many prominent personalities used to the massively-multiplayer genre, including popular streamer Asmongold, who has repeatedly praised the game in comparison to its competitors. Due to a sudden increase in popularity though, Lost Ark and its developers had quite the shock as so many tried to get onto the game in a short period of time.

Issues with Lost Ark’s servers and matchmaking have persisted since this burst in popularity, leading to queues in the tens of thousands at times. In the latest blog post by Lost Ark’s developers, the surge of players is referred to as when “the hordes of heroes arrived on the western shores of Arkesia.” Despite this unpredictable popularity though, the team working on Lost Ark has been trying to update and patch the game as much as possible in order to ensure that the experience of new players’ is as good as it can be.

However, this has not stopped players having issues with Lost Ark. There are a multitude of ways besides server load times that have hindered the experience for players, though the developer posted an update trying to tackle some of these issues with a balance patch. At the start of the post, the Lost Ark developers outline how interesting and difficult it has been with so many players at different levels of play and experience. As some “are still uncovering and learning the advanced systems during their adventures.” Specifically though, this update is focused around balancing the game with dedication to Tier 1 and Tier 2 content.

Lost Ark initially launched with Tier 1, 2, and 3 content. “Tier 1 and 2 are designed as a prologue for the wealth of end-game Tier 3 content,” says the Lost Ark developers. Yet, there is an understanding among the community that some overly difficult Guardian and Abyssal Dungeon encounters were left behind in Tier 1 and Tier 2, leading to an unfair experience for some players. This is what the team is looking to balance for the future, so that players are better prepared for the Tier 3 endgame.

March 2 brought another update to Lost Ark, which introduced some of the ideas that were fleshed out in the full patch notes released on the following day. March 3’s update will result in a potential six hours of server downtime for Lost Ark players, though the balance changes should be worth it for players looking to ready themselves for the endgame.

Lost Ark is available now on PC.
