New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 24, 2022) follows:

Madden NFL is the successful American football simulation series from Electronic Arts. The most recent installment in the franchise is Madden NFL 22, but Madden NFL 21 (the previous version) still has active players.

However, some Madden 21 players are experiencing an annoying issue that prevents them from accessing MUT mode (Madden NFL 21 Ultimate Team).

More specifically, a ‘there was an error retrieving your currency’ message arises when some players try to access the MUT mode in Madden NFL 21 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

Madden 21 ‘there was an error retrieving your currency’ message

Multiple reports describing the same situation have surfaced in the last few days. The issue persists even after a complete reinstallation of the game.

After the ‘there was an error retrieving your currency’ error message appears, the player is kicked out of Madden NFL 21 some minutes later and cannot log in again due to a server error.

Unable to play MUT 21 keeps giving me “Error retrieving currency balances”. Tried rebooting numerous times! I just deleted game and in the process of reinstalling….. Source

Some reports suggest that not only the MUT mode could be affected by the issue. For instance, the error can also appear in Superstar KO (a quick match mode).

Like the title says, it won’t let me play superstar KO, a game where no currency is involved, because my currency balance can’t be retrieved? What???? Everything else works fine. But superstar KO is the only game mode I haven’t played much of and I really do enjoy it, but leave it to EA to structure their game so poorly to where a dumb glitch like this happens. Source
