Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a complete retelling of the Final Fantasy 7 story, with some changes. Perhaps the biggest change is how much Final Fantasy 7 Remake expands on the original’s plot, with players spending the whole game in Midgar. This allowed the developers to flesh-out certain characters more and offer more depth to the story overall, but it also meant that some characters have yet to make their Remake debut.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake gave a brief cameo to future party member Cait Sith, and the Intermission DLC shines the spotlight on Yuffie. However, there are still a couple of party members that still need to make their Remake debut. Plus, an important member of the Turks also didn’t appear at all during the events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, though they too will likely be making their appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, whenever that comes out.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is still largely shrouded in mystery. It’s unclear exactly how far in the story Square Enix will take things next, but these three important characters are still likely to make appearances in Part 2, assuming the developers don’t take everything in completely unexpected directions, that is.
Vincent Valentine
It’s possible that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2’s story won’t quite get to the point where Vincent Valentine joins the party, but one has to imagine that he will still play some role in the game regardless. After all, the first Final Fantasy 7 Remake included a brief cameo appearance by Cait Sith, and so it stands to reason that something similar can be done with Vincent. Plus, some of the story developments in Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Yuffie DLC make a Vincent appearance in Part 2 seem even more likely. Those who have yet to play the Yuffie DLC should proceed with caution as there are some SPOILERS ahead.
Those that have managed to get their hands on a PlayStation 5 console and have played Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Yuffie DLC will know that the expansion introduces some characters that are directly tied to Vincent. Specifically, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Intermission Yuffie DLC adds the characters Weiss the Immaculate and his brother Nero the Sable, two members of Shinra’s secret military group Deepground.
What’s significant about Weiss and Nero is that they appear prominently in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7, a Final Fantasy 7 spin-off game that features Vincent as the main playable character. It seems likely that Weiss and Nero will be featured in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, considering their introduction in Intermission, and so it would make sense to throw Vincent into the mix as well. Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen, of course, but hopefully fans don’t have to wait too long to find out if Vincent is going to appear in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.
Something that’s unclear about Vincent is if he will still be an optional party member in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 (or Part 3 or whenever he shows up), like he was in the original game. Yuffie was also an optional party member in the original Final Fantasy 7, and considering the showcase she got during Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intermission, it’s hard to see her being optional in the next game. The same logic can probably apply to Vincent.
Cid Highwind
The Final Fantasy 7 party members meet Cid Highwind in Rocket Town, and he soon joins the party to fight against Shinra. Events in Final Fantasy 7 put Cid at odds with Shinra and more specifically, President Rufus, pretty quickly, and so he’s all-in on the group’s vendetta against Shinra before too long. Cid joins the Final Fantasy 7 party shortly after Vincent is added to the mix, though the difference is Cid has always been a required party member.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn’t afraid to make story changes, so it will be interesting to see exactly how Cid is introduced in the game and what happens in his story. It’s quite likely that his role in the story will be tweaked and expanded compared to how he was presented in the original Final Fantasy 7, but details remain scarce. Fans will have to wait for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 reveal to learn more.
Elena
Elena is a member of Final Fantasy 7’s villainous Turks group, but she doesn’t appear in the original game until the party reaches the Mythril Mine area. She will almost certainly be making her debut in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, as the Mythril Mine is visited fairly quickly after the point in the story where Final Fantasy 7 Remake leaves off. Elena is one of the newest members of the Turk organization, and so she isn’t quite as intense as other members of the organization. Seeing her relationship with the other Turks and their interactions with AVALANCHE should be interesting to see with FF7 Remake’s upgraded graphics and new story elements.
