Marvel boss Nate Moore has had his hands in some of the biggest Marvel Studios projects over the years. Now, Moore has given fans some insight into the plans for Captain America 4, which will star Anthony Mackie in the role after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Now having claimed the title of Marvel VP of production and development, Moore has produced Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Panther, and the latest Eternals. Moore’s next project will be the highly anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, having produced two out of the three Captain America films, Moore clearly has a soft spot in his heart for the beloved hero.

He revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero podcast that he had to convince the writing team after the first film that Falcon should be just as prioritized as a character. Moore said, “When I was a kid, I had a bunch of Captain America and Falcon comics. I knew Captain America as Captain America and Falcon more than I knew him as an individual.” Although the film has been officially confirmed, the details surrounding the upcoming Captain America 4 have been kept mostly under wraps. Yet, Moore has recently shared some behind-the-scenes conversations that were crucial to the film creating its own sense of creative autonomy outside of what the franchise has done in the past. Since Moore worked on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he played a part in casting Mackie for the role in the Disney Plus series.

Mackie having taken over the reins as the MCU’s Captain America will result in the fourth film being instantaneously different from the previous three films. The only main detail that has been confirmed surrounding Captain America 4 is that Anthony Mackie will without a doubt be the solo lead of the film. However, Moore firmly believes that it’s Mackie’s new presence in the film that will give him a slight edge with the audience and die-hard fans.

Moore stated, “I think he’s not Steve Rogers and I think that’s a good thing, because, to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation. He’s not a super-soldier. He’s not a hundred years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America -’ what happens next? I think it is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy. So, we’re going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything. What makes somebody Captain America? I’m going to argue it’s not being a super soldier, and I think we’re going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson."

Captain America 4 was first announced almost as soon as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended. So fans have already been waiting a long time to see Mackie’s Captain America get his own solo film, but Moore’s comments certainly make it sound like the anticipation will be worthwhile.

Captain America 4 is currently in development at Marvel Studios.
