Marvel’s Avengers is not doing well, and has had a rocky lifespan so far. Recent changes had players up in arms as resources were made harder to get and paid XP boosters were added to compensate, leading to so much backlash that those XP boosters were removed (at least for now).

At this point the playerbase for Marvel’s Avengers is holding out for a hero, and many of those hopes are pinned on Spider-Man, at least for those who own a PlayStation console. It’s no surprise, since Spider-Man has traditionally had some great video game runs, though he’s had so many runs players are curious about the specifics of Peter Parker in the world of Marvel’s Avengers.

One question is that of Spider-Man’s age, which is more pertinent than some might think. Out of all the heroes under Marvel’s roster, Spider-Man has traditionally been the most malleable when it comes to age, ranging from a high-schooler to a college student and beyond. In this case, one developer cleared things up in a Reddit thread: Spider-Man is around college age. The first image of Spider-Man in the game shows him as a college student joining the Avengers.

Further clarifying his place in the world, the same developer mentioned that Spider-Man has been heroing longer than Kamala Khan, but not as long as the other Avengers. Specifically, he began his heroing campaign after A-Day, the event that kicks off the game and drives the Avengers apart. This could make him the character who relates the most to Kamala, since they’re both relatively new on the scene and likely the closest in age. Of course, his in-game status doesn’t limit Spider-Man’s looks, as there are at least six in-game cosmetics for Spider-Man.

At this point, Spider-Man has definitely come into his own as a hero, but is not yet at his peak, at least in most media. His skill level in this A-Day universe is still a bit unknown, but judging by the trailer showing off Spider-Man’s gameplay, he can hold his own.

Whether or not Spider-Man will be enough to rully bring Marvel’s Avengers back into the spotlight and into success remains to be seen. Perhaps the game will bring in more heroes who could help. Hopefully players will see Moon Knight or other obscure characters come in one day, as at the very least, it could give them some more attention.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
