While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans still have a fair bit of waiting to do before the game is in their hands, and before promotional material is releasing frequently, some gamers have made a poster for the sequel. Not only is their Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 creation well-made, but it is also crafted in the style of Ultimate Spider-Man.
Ultimate Spider-Man is one of the most beloved titles starring the webslinger. The game was based on the comic series of the same name, which featured a popular, younger version of Peter Parker. It had a unique cel shaded art style that helped it stand out from the many other games based on Spidey, with the title holding up relatively well today because of its unique aesthetic. It also featured Venom in a prominent role, with the Symbiote monster serving as a boss fight and playable character that boasted an entirely different moveset from Peter’s.
While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game, it is Venom’s role that has significantly added to the hype. With Venom being one of Spidey’s most iconic comic book villains, and the character growing in popularity due to his recent live action movies, it is the perfect time for him to make his debut in the Insomniac series. While it is unclear how similar he will be to the Ultimate Spider-Man version, the fact that he has such a big role inspired Instagram users @vigilantespider and @thespideybugle to create a poster merging the games.
The poster in question perfectly copies a promotional poster for Ultimate Spider-Man that released over 15 years ago. The first adjustment can be seen at the top of the image, as the game’s tagline has been adjusted. Ultimate Spider-Man’s was “be legendary, be predatory, be both,” a nod to Venom’s role as a playable character. The new catchphrase incorporates “be greater” and “be yourself,” the taglines from Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales respectively. Both Spider-Man and Venom are swapped out with their PS5 models.
The new poster also features some images from the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer, such as Peter and Miles side by side and the Iron Spider legs being used. A nice touch sees the platforms swapped to feature only the PS5 logo, highlighting the game’s exclusivity, while the Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios logos replace Activision’s. The release date has also been swapped from 2005 to “coming soon,” showing that the Marvel’s Spider-Man fans behind the poster were careful to think of every possible detail.
With other fan art including a custom cover for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, creative gamers are clearly doing their best to keep busy. For those that loved Ultimate Spider-Man, though, this clever piece is particularly special.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
