Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards on Monday after the comedian made some derogatory remarks about Jada Pinkett Smith. Will smacked Chris after he made a remark about his actor-wife Jada’s cropped hair.
On Monday, Chris, who was presenting the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, made a joke about Will’s wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s, appearance. “Jada, I love you,” Chris said. “I can’t wait to see GI Jane 2.” It was unknown whether Chris was aware that Jada suffers from alopecia, a disease that causes hair loss. Will then approached Chris and punched him in the face.
Jada has alopecia, an auto-immune disorder that causes hair loss and bald patches. Many people were offended by the humour, including Will, who stormed the stage from the audience and punched him. This was shortly before he received his first Academy Award nomination for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard.
