There are few features in video games that manage to unite the entire community, but when they do crop up it is easy to tell them apart. The ability to pet dogs, for example, instantly raises the value of a game in the eyes of many. Although the jury is still out on whether or not players will be able to pet dogs in the upcoming Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (at the very least players should be able to pet the Varren in Mass Effect 2), it is now clear that another universally celebrated feature, photo mode, is making its way into the remakes. Photo mode allows players to pause the game and snap gorgeous pictures, sometimes featuring built in photo editors to help players fine tune their photo.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is sure to include some stunning vistas, as it is a direct remaster of the original trilogy. Being able to see all of the amazing sights of Mass Effect in 4K resolution and 60 fps will be incredible enough, but now players can capture each moment with the built in photo mode as well.

Not much has been revealed about this photo mode as of yet, but the tweet below does show off a few things. First of all, like all photo modes, it should pause the game while players snap their pictures, and it will also allow players to freely move the camera around. The image also shows the UI for the photo editor, although it is all subject to change. It seems that players will be able to do basic touchups and editing on their photos before they use their console’s screenshot capturing features to take the photo.

Needless to say, fans are absolutely thrilled about this inclusion. Even those players that don’t tend to use photo mode much when they play games can find benefits from this simply from the sheer number of amazing photos players post online of their favorite games. For any doubting that this will be the case, just take a look at Ghost of Tsushima photo mode appreciation posts or some of the amazing shots to come from Demon’s Souls’ photo mode.

This info comes directly from Mac Walters, the Project Director for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition at BioWare, so there’s no doubting its legitimacy. With the remastered trilogy releasing on May 14th, fans have a little time still to work out which locations from the three games they absolutely need to capture with this new feature.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releases on May 14th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
